Carmen Ray and Crystal Thompson take you In the Spotlight to meet two amazing women! Shauna Weatherspoon and Linda Michelle Trainer are contributors to Be Well Magazine for Women. In this video interview, they'll share what inspired them to do the work they do.
It has often been said if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough. How big are your dreams? What do you feel you are being called to do with this one amazing life you have to live? How long will you allow your dreams to be put on the back burner; hoping that someday, it may happen? As winter gives way to spring, the season of new beginnings, this is the ideal time for you to reassess where you are and give your dreams the chance to thrive. In order to push your dreams to the next level, you must conquer anything that could hold you back.

According to Chinese astrology, 2020 was the Year of the Rat, which is believed to bring wealth, prosperity, and abundance. The Chinese New Year fell on January 25th of 2020, so when COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic on Friday, March 13th the world was thrown into a ‘never before’ global shutdown of businesses which caused an enormous economic breakdown. So much for the promise of wealth and prosperity! But I learned by the end of the year that rats can be quite deceptive. 2020 turned out to be one of the most prosperous years in my journey as a self-employed entrepreneur. Not only did I earn 10% more than in my previous four years, but I also established new streams of income that have become long-term situations.
Get ready to meet the amazing women behind the stories featured in Be Well Magazine. Carmen Ray and Crystal Thompson sit down to talk with each contributor about their article, their business, and their life experiences that prepared them for who they are today. In the Spotlight will debut on Be Well for Women's Youtube page and Facebook group.

For as long as I can remember, I was trying to please other people. It took the majority of my life to realize that the one person I had not given any thought to was me.
I grew up in a single-parent household. But I was surrounded by so much family so I always felt loved. There is something to say about a father’s love and attention that brings a different kind of life to a young girl; I did not have that. My Dad was the popular guy in town and the hometown athlete. I thought if I played sports as he did, he would notice me. But he did not. Or at least I didn’t feel that way.

You can choose to be a NEW YOU, or go back to the Old You from years gone by; OR choose to do the Same Ol’, Same Ol’ way of handling your goals, dreams and vision.
Yes, there is a difference between old and same ol’, same ol’. The Old You was growing and experiencing various things—probably aLOT of really bad things. However, the Same Ol’, Same Ol’ is still the old you but doing the same things over and over again finding yourself facing the same challenges from year to year. Repeating the procrastination, repeating the doubt in your mind, repeating the excuses you have managed to build up, and relying on them to keep you repeatedly operating in the same ol’, same ol’ just becomes useless, redundant and wasteful.

I am Shauna Weatherspoon of SW Living and I am truly honored to share this new year message with the Be Well community as a writing contributor. The past year has had many ups and downs for so many of us, but if there is anything we have learned, it is to cherish the little moments in the day to day—especially moments spent with those we love.
Back in September 2020, I started contemplating what would be the "theme" and overall message for our January issue. Brainstorming my list of ideas, I decided on "The New Economy." So much in our local and global economy has changed, and unfortunately so many were unable to recover or pivot. Then there were others that we're able to adjust and soar. This is clearly our time to take inventory of our gifts, talents, and skills and make a decision to move our businesses from hobby to profit.
